Someone I know was aware of this place where people pushed their old cars off of a cliff. Naturally, that sounded AWESOME, so we went out there...only to find that the place had been turned into a little wildlife preserve thing with minitrails. Cool...but definitely not as cool as cars pushed off of a cliff. Regardless, took a few pics there.

Then we got in the hot tub...look familiar? Used my camera this time, though...can you tell if there's a difference? The lighting was exactly the same.

MASSIVE update from my short trip to the University of Cincinnati. I didn't realize how close Cincinnati is, I mean wow, what a quick drive. Anyway, Aaron took us on a night tour of campus. Obviously not the first time he has gotten into places that he probably wasn't supposed to at night, but the way he looks at it is if it's not locked, its not his fault he got in lol. He also practices the line "Sorry officer, I'm lost," and made us practice it too. Honestly though, I'm not sure that UC puts much effort into keeping their buildings closed anyway, so no big.

First, pictures from the art building. This first set is more writing on the wall. Credit to the artists who drew this stuff, whoever they are.

Okay, these are in the recording studio in the theater & music building. I'm quite sure we weren't supposed to be in here, but like Aaron said...they should have locked the door. Plus, I really couldn't pass it up...the lighting in here was absolutely perfect.

Outside of the studio:

Theater prop storage...most of the props were locked up (good call, UC) but some weren't. Like this giant horse. And the fake cars.

UC stadium at night. Now really, this isn't locked up at all...completely UNLIKE the Horseshoe, which might as well be Area 51 for all of the impenetrable gates up around that thing. We went down onto the field and it was amazing.

Evan right before we went into the athletic facilities.

We got into the athletic facilites where Aaron showed us the indoor track and a really nice underground basektball court, what the heck?? There were UC students with us that didn't even know this stuff was there.

The basketball court had two very tall, flexible mirrors. Aaron put them together and we all stood between them, and someone touched one...it rippled, like when you touch water. This is the result...NOTHING in focus, but it's exactly what we all saw.

Yes, the valley got snow. Weird, I know. Not over here in Hendo...unfortunately. The west side got some...we got nothing. BUT, the mountains were pretty. So I took some pictures.

There was an empty Smirnoff bottle chilling on the ground right next to where I parked.

I figure only Basic people will have any emotion regarding a Smirnoff bottle and The B in the same picture.

Also...has anyone seen this type of bird before?

It showed up randomly on my wall.

Mike was giving me snow driving lessons on the first snow of the year, and we saw this cemetary. I stopped and we got out, went and took pictures. You'll have to forgive me, though, because I was dressed just in sweats so I was freeeezzing. It's impossible to focus when you're that cold. So this is the result.

Alright, so I went on a run today. I'm very out of shape. When I got back I walked a bit, stretched a bit, and sat on the couch for a bit. When I got up from the couch, my calves were SO TIGHT...owww. So I asked Mike if he would like to go on a walk so I could loosen my legs up. I took my camera and we walked to campus (across the street). Mike suggested we see if any buildings were open. None of them are supposed to be...theyre all key-card after hours. But sure enough, Smith Lab was open.
(Don't worry Mom, I had my mace and we were being safe.)

We started out in a couple of the lecture halls (in case you can't tell, this building is really, really old).

We then went upstairs. The picture below scares me, and I took the darn thing. Enlarge it if you get the chance, Mike is touching the glass. It creeps me out.

We then moved on to some rooms that are being...I don't know, renovated or something? They were mostly cleaned out but random crap was everywhere. Btw, who the heck leaves OPEN beakers of RANDOM chemicals on the counter in a room that's being renovated??

This was a creepy hallway thing that apparently goess between the rooms, probably used for wiring and heating and such. The doors were half the size of normal doors, and I refused to go in there but mike went to the room across this little hall thing, into a room loaded with chemicals, as can be seen here.

Like I said, mostly empty.

Apparently there's a park behind my apartment. All I knew about was the baseball field part, but apparently there's much more to it than that. Mike and I went out there as the sun was setting and got back when it was very dark, and I was creeped out a bit so I didnt want to stand around for very long getting pictures, so nothing really turned out. BUT I have a question.

How come if the little kids at the rec center want to paint their trash can, they can, but if I paint my trash can the City of Columbus has the right to "remove it from [my] property"?

Project 3

Okay, here are the pictures from project 3, the portrait project. I had a tough time with this because the word "portrait" wasn't defined for us. Apparently, what a portrait actually is is currently being debated in the art world. Therefore, we were allowed to define portraiture ourselves. I struggled with this because traditionally it has been defined as a waistline or higher shot that defines a person. The idea was to capture more than just what the sitter looks like. Some artists believe that they can encompass a person's entire personality and being into one shot, or even a series of shots. I think that's a bunch of crap. No way can you define a person in one photo...I mean, half the time, the sitter doesn't even know everything about themselves, so how is the photographer supposed to? Anyway, I figured that for portraits we should photograph something tangible, something that the sitter gives us. So I focused on emotion. Expressions of emotion are something that the sitter can give us that we don't have to pry out of them, or fake for the sake of the photograph. Therefore, my portrait project took on a sort of documentary feel, but that's okay. Half of the time I feel like documentary is the only way to get anything that's real. The rest of the time though I realize how wrong that is.
Well that was a bit of a tangent, wasn't it. Anyway, as I said, here are the photos from this project. Feel free to practically rip them apart, because that's what my class did haha. I don't mind....anything to help my photos get better. All of these people were free to look at the camera if they wished and were aware that I was photographing them.

Alright, again, sorry it has taken so long to get project 2 up. Blogger will only let me upload one picture at a time (what the heck??) so it takes forever.
Anyway, this was supposed to be a documentary project. I didn't really have anything to document, so I documented a surprise birthday/pool party. I chose only pictures from the pool because they are all blue, and I wanted the photos to look like a set (considering they are supposed to be).
I wish I could show you how they were arranged for display. Sorry that I can't =/

So it's been a while, I know. I took some pictures at an OSU baseball game that I've been meaning to get up, but haven't had a chance to yet. If you're a baseball fan, sorry to disappoint you, but you won't be seeing those pictures in this post.
Today I took some of the group shots for the sororities. Those are nothing special...but you should check out some of the stuff I got on the way back. Surprise visit at Mirror Lake by a Heron.

Track (2)

The track meet was fun. I didn't see either of the coaches I had dealed with previously. It was actually really hard getting pictures of people from Ohio State...our team seems a bit small and there were TONS of teams there.

I wish I could have gotten more shots of the long jump...none of our athletes were jumping so I didn't spend much time there =/ I KNOW I can get some great shots of that, I'll just have to go back and do it some other time.

I really hate not having a press pass. I was standing at the end of the 100 on the other side of the fence, and six huge Big Ten Network guys with HUGE lenses came up and stood RIGHT in front of me -.- I was beyond irritated.

High jump was a good time, but hard to get a good angle, especially since the javelin people were starting right next to them.

The boys and I had taken our bikes over there, and the path back goes right by the river. They were being boys and took off, so I slowed down to see if there was anything by the river, and GUESS WHAT!! Geese. Goslings. And a groundhog.

I'm actually a bit disappointed with most of my shots today, but that's okay. Next time will be better.

Track

I think I'm going to be responsible for shooting the track meet this weekend. This wouldn't be a big deal, except that the coach really dislikes me for telling her I was interested and then changing my mind. But really, which would she prefer? I half dedicated, unsure-of-what-she-can-handle freshman, or someone that was honest and said she couldn't participate? Plus, from what I hear, it was a good choice. Those girls kill themselves and hate every minute of it because of the coaching. Whatever. It was either that or some honor sorority thing (booorrrring), so there was really no choice. I guess we'll see what happens.

Nothing really exciting today, but I played in the water fountain a little bit. You'll probably think these shots are boring, and I totally understand. This really isn't "art"- this is me playing around with my new camera's settings so that I know what it's capable of. You don't have to look if you don't want to haha.

Now I know you won't know what this is if I don't tell you....

...so I'll enlighten you. This is my lovely model Mike's tongue in the disgusting drinking fountain water lol.

And you REALLY won't know this one unless I tell you. This is my roommate's chinchilla's feet. Not a good picture, but I'm STILL shocked at how CLEAR everything is. It's awesome.

And the moral of the story is...I still love my camera. It's amazing.

So at 4AM this morning I was checking my email (because I'm the definition of compulsive when it comes to email-checking) and I had a new one from the new Makio photo editor. He was begging for SOMEONE to cover the Ohio State Barbeque Qlub meeting at 2 this afternoon. I considered it and...what were the odds that someone else who would be willing to do that shoot would be up at 4AM? Yeah, not good. And I was kind of glad to have the opportunity to do something actually PHOTOGRAPHIC...no more "Please please do copy" emails or "Deanna can you come in to help with design...again? Please? =/" emails. No....this was actual PHOTOGRAPHY...which would be good, considering I'm supposed to be on PHOTO staff. Not that I mind design. Copy on the other hand...

Anyway. The group shot was terrible, but that's okay, whatever. None of the pictures I took were particularly fantastic, but some of them were kind of funny. Consider this one....

The name of today's event was "Sausage Fest" (ha) and they cooked LOADS of sausages and baked beans. The weird thing about the above picture is...the president's (Mr I <3 BBQ) expression. He looks slightly disgusted by that sausage.

If you get a chance to enlarge the next one, check out that chick's glasses. Awesome.

I had to delete about 7 pictures because of one guy...I didn't realize that one of the grill masters was wearing an apron that was the body of a naked woman. Amusing, until I saw that half of those were good, usable shots. -.-

One guy really irritated me....he asked me why I was taking pictures, and I said "Yearbook," and he goes "Oh, high school?"

Okay...lets think through this, shall we? Why would a HIGH SCHOOL YEARBOOK want pictures of a COLLEGE BBQ CLUB?? Uh...yeah. So I said, "No. Our yearbook. Makio." And he goes "Oh. We have a yearbook?"

Where has this kid been all through college, really? Makio only has advertisements EVERYWHERE. Gosh. How do you know about BBQ Qlub and not yearbook? Luckily, none of the pictures he was in turned out very well. I'll leave it to you to decide if that's just a coincidence haha.

I got my SLR for my birthday. Came in the mail yesterday afternoon. I had a 6:30 midterm...it was SOOO hard to concentrate with a brand new camera in the room, if you can understand that. After adjusting some settings and getting used to the lenses last night, I took t he camera out today. Here are some of the shots from around campus-mainly the oval (in no logical order, because blogger decided to be weird and I don't feel like fixing it).
